You'd have to pay me to watch this crap. Why does everything need a "dark, gritty reboot"? Superman is about infantile moral clarity and brightly colored tights. Why mess with the brand? The one good thing that could come of this would be if it bombed so hard it killed the superhero blockbuster forever.

zettal, I am with you on this one, I think it was rather over the top. There is a wonderful expression that comes to my mind and that is 'KISS' which translates as Keep it simple stupid, no aspertions in anyway to you. Coe and company along with Daniel Boyle, I fear missed the point. The fashion it seems is upmanship in razmataz. Quite unnecessary. Also there appears to be something forgotten in terms of the paralympics -surely to goodness it would have been better if those were complete3d before handing over the flag and putting out the Olympic flame.

Very good review. I couldn't get into the book, and the trailer for the film came across as too schmaltzy. But, based on this review, I may now watch it when it comes to the Sky movie channel.

I never really thought otherwise John. The BBC are becoming one of the most effective and professional brand-protectors in the country - both the BBC brand which of course piggy-backs on Strictly's success; but also therefore of the Strictly brand. There are now almost as many ads on BBC as ITV - but all are for the BBC and their output. I think those of us who buy into the fun of SCD know only too well that massive chunks of it are orchestrated: it's just not as objectionable as for example in The Apprentice.
